Last month, a French government agency apparently claimed that the iPhone 12 series had a radiation leak and was forced to slap a ban on the lineup. It was bizarre news for sure and denied by Apple, but at least the company is doing something about it.
According to sources, Apple will be rolling out iOS 17.1 Beta 3 in hopes of solving the issue. The link here says"Updates the iPhone 12 for users in France to accommodate a test protocol for Specific Absorption Rate testing". It is said that the French regulators have already approved it on 29 September 2023 and we should be expecting to see this update soon.
For those who missed out, the regulators claimed that many iPhone 12 models had exceeded the radiation requirement and would ban the sales. Apple said otherwise, though, as the iPhone 12 radio-frequency emission met the standard but in the US, the FCC is the one that regulates it which is different from the French government.
This case was an odd one because the iPhone 12 series was released three years ago and with the recent release of the iPhone 15 series, the iPhone 12 models should be phasing out already. Speaking of that, Apple just recently released an update for the iPhone 15 series to fix the overheating issues and turns out it was Instagram's fault, according to this Tech YouTuber.
