Kuala Lumpur: The banking system recorded an excess capital buffer of RM133.3 billion in August 2023, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said.
In August 2023 monthly highlights, the central bank said the capital position of Malaysian banks remained strong in their ability to withstand potential stress and provide credit to support economic activities.BNM said the banking system’s resilience continues to be underpinned by sound asset quality, where overall gross and net impaired loans ratios remain largely unchanged at 1.8 and 1.1 per cent, respectively. “Loan loss coverage ratio remains at a prudent level of 115.
