- ROME, OCT 26 - The 2024 budget law"seeks to strike a balance between the legitimate aspirations of a multiplicity of subjects and budgetary constraints", Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Thursday, adding that he is finalising the details for transmission to parliament.
"I am well aware of the difficulties and commitment that characterise your days, the concrete needs and demands you are called upon to meet," continued the minister in a video message to mayors attending the 40th assembly of the national association of Italian municipalities .But I cannot ignore the particularly delicate moment we are in," he continued.
The 2024 budget law provides for a spending review by local and regional authorities amounting to a total of 600 million euros a year. Under the draft proposal, regions are expected to reduce their spending by 350 million euros per year, excluding on health care and social rights, provinces by 50 million euro and municipalities by 200 million euro.
"At this stage, it is more necessary than ever to ensure maximum efficiency in the management of resources and administrative processes in order to make the best use of opportunities and to follow specific and clearly-defined priorities," added Giorgetti. .
