Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the proposal was also based on the current shortage situation, which seems beyond control, making it difficult for people to get local rice in the market.

“Establishing LPN is viewed as a solution to the current conflicting interests in the rice industry, on controlling local rice supply, ensuring that no party exploits the situation when people are in distress. Dr Muhammad Akmal, who is also the state Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman said the committee also proposed stricter enforcement measures and harsher penalties against anyone found manipulating local rice supply.
