IPOH: The Perak Fire and Rescue Department is always ready to respond to any monsoon-related natural disaster, says its director Sayani Saidon.
“We have 1,216 personnel and 69 boats, including those made with aluminium and fibre,” she said when contacted.“It is also normal practice to draft in personnel from different districts to areas that have natural disasters,” she said, adding that the National Disaster Management Agency would also ensure that all preparations and aid can be channelled effectively.
“We do not deny that assistance from other agencies and non-governmental organisations also play a role in helping us face any disasters,” she added.“Based on the data collected by the Irrigation and Drainage Department last year, Kerian and Larut, Matang and Selama are the districts with the highest frequency of flash floods,” she said.
