Roslan Hashim says this will help those in the lower-income group to buy their first homes.
KUALA LUMPUR: An MP has urged the government to consider revising the eligibility criteria for the purchase of affordable housing under the PR1MA project from a minimum household income of RM2,500 to RM2,000.He also suggested that the government expedite and increase the number of houses constructed under the scheme.
Currently, Malaysians aged 21 and above may purchase a PR1MA home as a first or second home with an individual or combined monthly household income of RM2,500 to RM15,000.Roslan also said the government should allocate reserved state land in Felda areas to second-generation and third-generation settlers to enable them to build their homes at their own cost.
“If this initiative succeeds, it will undoubtedly encourage more young people to reside in rural areas and cultivate their own land,” he told the Dewan Rakyat in the debate on the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan. He said this initiative could also help solve the labour shortage and reduce reliance on foreign manpower.
