KOTA KINABALU: A local man, apparently high after sniffing glue, allegedly attacked two police cars with a parang and meat cleaver in Sabah’s south-western Beaufort district.
The 40-year-old suspect put up a fight before being arrested in the incident at Kampung Kiambor, Kuala Penyu at 2.30am on Sunday .
Beaufort OCPD Supt Ismail Abdullah said they received calls from concerned villagers just after midnight saying that a man in the area was behaving in a belligerent manner.“When they reached the location, the suspect – armed with a parang in his left hand and a meat cleaver in the other – suddenly sprang out from a bush and swung at the vehicles before running off," he said when contacted on Tuesday .
"But policemen managed to catch up to him and restrain the suspect who still acted aggressively,” he added. Supt Ismail said the damage sustained by the two police cars in the attack included broken side mirrors, tail lights and beacon lights. He said the man had been remanded until Thursday for investigations under Section 506, 186 and 427 of the Penal Code for, respectively, criminal intimidation, obstructing public servants from discharging their duty, and mischief.to our Premium Plan for an ad-free and unlimited reading experience!
