MOSE protects Venice from big high water, 150 cm reached

- ROME, OCT 27 - The MOSE anti-flooding system on Friday protected Venice from an exceptional high tide, with strong winds, that is affecting the upper Adriatic Sea. Outside the sluice gates, in the open sea, the water touched nearly 150 centimetres - 148 to be exact - at the Lido's southern barrier, while it reached 144 centimetres at the Ismar-Cnr platform nearer the city centre.

The sea level has been above 1.40 metres for over two hours, while in the inner lagoon it has not exceeded 72 cm, and the city is dry. The MOSE came into operation last year and is regularly activated to save the lagoon city from the acqua alta that often submerged it. .
