PASIR GUDANG: The Bukit Payung sanitary landfill project in Batu Pahat is expected to be completed early next year, says the Johor Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation.

Its director Cairul Hisham Jalaluddin said the project could accommodate waste from Batu Pahat, Kluang, Labis, Muar, Renggam, Tangkak and Yong Peng, especially during the monsoon season.

“It was temporarily opened during the previous monsoon season to handle the huge amount of waste generated from the floods, but for this year, we will decide later depending on the situation,” he told reporters after opening the state-level World Cleanup Day at Kampung Pasir Gudang Baru here yesterday.

“We are currently developing a transfer station project in Pekan Nenas, right next to the closed location, and it is expected to be completed by the third quarter of next year,” he added.
