PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Ng Tze Yong and Leong Jun Hao are shaping up nicely for the Asian Games.
Yesterday, both claimed stunning wins over their respective higher ranked Taiwanese opponents to march into the men’s singles second round of the Hong Kong Open.
Tze Yong played with aggression and intelligence to come away with his second consecutive victory over the experienced Tien-chen after also beating him in the Thailand Open in June. World No. 42 Jun Hao, who had come through the qualifying rounds, continued his fine form in the tournament with a rousing 22-20, 21-15 win over world No. 23 Lin Chun-yi to set up a meeting against Indonesia’s world No. 2 Anthony Ginting.
Asiad-bound Goh Jin Wei also made it into the second round after a hard fought 23-25, 21-13, 21-14 win over Denmark’s world No. 25 Line Kjaersfeldt.
