Australian cricket authorities are breathing a sigh of relief after players from both sides all returned negative COVID tests, paving the way for the Boxing Day Test to continue.

Australian cricket authorities are breathing a sigh of relief after players from both sides all returned negative COVID-19 tests, paving the way for the Boxing Day Test to continue on Tuesday.

Fortunately for CA, close contacts in Victoria are required to only isolate until returning negative tests. In NSW and Tasmania, vaccinated close contacts must isolate for at least seven days after exposure to a contact, with a negative test on day six required to leave isolation.

Victoria’s rules meant that members of Channel Seven’s commentary team were back at the MCG by Monday afternoon after being sidelined from the start of play due to a case. According to a source familiar with the matter, not all players would welcome a tightening of restrictions for the remainder of the series.
