Lower input cost for building materials will correlate with reduced housing prices, says the Real Estate and Housing Developers Association Malaysia.
In a press statement today, Rehda president NK Tong urged the government to consider reducing the input cost for building materials by temporarily lowering or removing import levies. Such an intervention, he added, will definitely go a “long way” in mitigating the housing unaffordability problem. “He added that 95% of state income was derived from some form of property tax, such as land conversion premiums, and therefore reforming state finance is essential when it comes to discussing affordable housing,” said Tong.
