The Government has allocated RM10 million for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and PEKA (Your Second Chance) programmes to provide Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB)-certified skills training to offenders next year.
He said this was because the programmes run by the Prisons Department had succeeded in providing job opportunities to offenders who have completed their sentence.“In addition, the Government will also table a proposal to amend the Drug Dependants Act 1983 to enable drug abusers and addicts to undergo treatment and rehabilitation without being put in prison,” he said.
