Shell and BYD have announced the world's largest EV charging hub which has triple the DC fast charging points of the largest Tesla Supercharger. The location has 258 charging points with up to 250kW of DC fast charging.
According to Shell, the Shell Recharge Shenzhen Airport EV station which is located about 2.5km from the airport terminal building has served more than 3,300 EVs daily during its trial operations. For added convenience to EV drivers, the location offers Shell Select convenience retail, Shell Cafe, vending machines and a driver’s lounge.
In addition, the charging bays are covered and are equipped with rooftop solar panels that can generate about 300,000 kWh of renewable electricity per year which is utilised to charge the EVs. From what we can tell from the photos, the DC chargers are capable of delivering up to 250kW of fast charging.
Shell’s Global Executive Vice President for Mobility, István Kapitány, said “The opening of this new site is part of our ongoing commitment to meet the evolving needs of our customers in China. We know that EV drivers are looking for a charging experience that is fast, convenient and comfortable and this is reflected in the utilisation rates of our sites in China, which are two to three times the local industry average.
