KULAI: A study will be conducted to look into improving the existing Communications and Multimedia Act, says Teo Nie Ching.
The Deputy Communications and Digital Minister said that the Ministry plans to present the findings of the study in Parliament by the end of this year or early next year.
"The Act was enacted in 1998 and we feel that the time has come for us to review it once again to make sure that the existing provisions is sufficient to tackle the cybercrimes we see today. "This is among the efforts by the Ministry and we will also have engagements with stakeholders on this matter," she said, adding that the Ministry will also refer to similar laws in other countries such as Singapore.
She said this to the press when met before watching a patriotic movie with the people of Kulai at a cinema here on Sunday . Teo added that the Ministry also wants to ensure that service providers will be held more accountable under the Act once it has been amended."We don't think that that is the right approach and we want them to be held more responsible," she said.
