: The US state of California is again witnessing gasoline prices soar to near record highs, sparking a call from the state’s Republican lawmakers to suspend gas tax.
Xinhua found this week the price for a regular gallon at a gas station in Los Angeles County was US$6.89, while supreme and diesel cost US$7.19 and US$7.29, respectively. California has long had a reputation as one of the nation’s most expensive states for gas. Republican lawmakers say the reason is because “California is an energy island with isolated resources, which makes our state reliant on foreign imports if more domestic production is not allowed”.
