The Supreme Council member says he was never against the unity government but did not agree to an electoral pact among the parties.
Isham Jalil had earlier urged Umno to distance itself from Pakatan Harapan, particularly DAP, in future elections and to contest on its own.
However, he said he was never in favour of forming an electoral pact with PH. “The Yang di-Pertuan Agong never commanded us to go to the elections with PH. Do not get things mixed up,” Isham said. He said while Umno may not succeed in future by-elections after distancing itself from DAP, the move would at least facilitate the return of grassroots support.
