The foreign minister’s comments mark the clearest delineation of how Moscow views its tensions with Washington.
Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov referenced the weapons provided to Ukraine as evidence of the US’ involvement in the war.
He had been asked at what point would the US be at war with Russia as opposed to being described as a “proxy conflict.” “They are waging war with us. There are deliveries of more and more volumes of quantities of weapons,” Lavrov said. “I am certain that there are instructors working in large quantities on Ukrainian soil as well. And of course, there are many mercenaries there, many of whom are official officers but their mercenary status allows them to avoid the crossing of that legal threshold,” Lavrov claimed.
