Kota Kinabalu: An undocumented Indonesian woman was jailed 18 months for having someone else’s identity card for 30 years.
Nurhayati Bora , 53, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the identity card belonging to Harijah Abd Rahman at 10am on Sept 27 at the Investigation and Enforcement Division of the National Registration Department, here.The offence under Section 25 of the National Registration Regulation provides for a jail term of up to three years or fine, on conviction.

Naser informed the court that Nurhayati tried to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur at the airport here but the Immigration officer found her face did not tally with the photo in the identity card.Investigations revealed that Nurhayati’s late foster father gave the document to her, said Naser, who confirmed that the document had been in Nurhayati’s possession for 30 years.The prosecution applied for an adequate sentence.
