QuickCheck: Are fake law enforcement payment sites emerging online?

As more and more government bodies open up avenues for people to pay any fines they may have received online, it would seem logical to also assume that scammers can and have set up fake websites that mimic the real deal.

The Finance Ministry issued a warning about this on their official Facebook page, and gave the public several tips on how to avoid falling for fake sites set up as scams.

“Check the address of the link before proceeding with any transaction. Do not share your banking information with anyone,” said the ministry. It added that people should check the email address carefully before dealing with the sender and only use websites that have been verified by the relevant agency or department.
