JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/Agencies): Forest fires in some parts of Indonesia have declined and no haze had been detected moving to Malaysia, Environment and Forestry Minister said on Friday (Oct 6), a day after its neighbour urged Jakarta to take action as air quality worsened.
RECENTLY, the term “Disease X” has been popping up in the news and with it, a rumour has gone viral that nurses in Malaysia will be given a vaccine for it.First of all, Disease X is not an actual disease.
It symbolises a shift in policy-making as the WHO adopted the placeholder name to ensure that planning to combat future outbreaks was sufficiently flexible to adapt to an unknown pathogen, instead of the current method of creating vaccines and countermeasures that focus on specific and known diseases.
The Health Ministry has also come out to deny the claim that nurses in the country would be injected with the vaccine against Disease X."The claim can create negative perceptions about frontline healthcare workers, especially nurses who have dedicated their services to the country,” it said. As such, the ministry also advised the public to refrain from sharing such false information as it can cause public anxiety.
It added that the public is encouraged to verify the authenticity of news before sharing it, using reliable fact-checking platforms like sebenarnya.my.
