Hoarding has been considered a mental health condition, known as hoarding disorder, in which a person feels a strong need to save a large amount of items and experiences distress when attempting to get rid of said items.
And while people normally hoard items within their homes, sometimes this can lead to disturbances to neighbours if the items are left outside and it starts to smell. Sinar Harian took to their TikTok page to showcase staff members from Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh cleaning out the home of an elderly woman, after her rubbish hoarding activities started causing a smelly disturbance to her neighbours. They wrote, “A house inhabited by an elderly woman in her 60s became a ‘warehouse’ for garbage collection, causing discomfort to her neighbours for the past 3 years.”
“According to the City Council, they had to send 3 lorries with a capacity of 8 tonnes to collect and dispose of the ‘heap’ of rubbish, estimated to weigh 3 tonnes as a result of the integrated operation at the house in Jalan Merpati, Taman Ipoh, Ipoh, Perak on Monday .”We genuinely hope that the elderly woman also gets the help that she needs in order to prevent her from hoarding again. What do you think about this?
